Link sAUsage: LSU Hate Week Begins

October 9, 2017

It’s officially LSU week, everyone. Get your proper hate ready. There are a billion different things that have happened in this series, all of them weird, all of them unexpected. You know the list — fires, earthquakes, interceptions, cigars, bands, field goals, hurricanes -- this series honestly has everything.

And now it gets top billing this coming weekend.

On one hand, we haven’t played well in either of the last two CBS games at LSU in 2015 and 2011, both were absolute blood-lettings from the get-go. On the other, they don’t have time to get rip-roaring bourbonated before kickoff (at least not as much as they would with a night kick).

Something we’ll be looking for this weekend is more work, hard work from Kerryon Johnson. He’s clearly not 100%, but he leads the nation in touchdowns right now.

Speaking of work, this past Saturday was a special time for one Auburn legend. Buddy Davidson began his streak of games attended in 1957 as a student manager, and he hasn’t missed a game since. He’s seen games that I have and forgotten about. He’s been through some incredibly lean times and the very fun times as well. He’s seen it all, and the win over Ole Miss was his 700th game in a row. I can’t even fathom that.

Buddy’s seen some great players in his days watching SEC football, but he’s never seen another like Daniel Carlson, who became the SEC’s all-time scoring leader on Saturday with his 413th career point.

Meanwhile, Auburn jumped up a couple of spots in the rankings in both the AP and Coaches Polls. The Tigers aren’t quite in the top ten thanks to the Coaches, but the AP has them cracking that echelon, just barely.

And on the diamond, Butch Thompson lost an assistant coach, and then filled the hole right away with a guy that many are familiar with.

Welcome home, Gabe! It’s good to have you back.

Until later, War Eagle!
