Auburn in the NFL - Week 3

Someone showed off.
It’s always nice when you can make people who doubted you feel regret. And that’s exactly what Carl Lawson did this past weekend in Cincinnati’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. For what it’s worth, the defeat absolutely did not fall at the hands of Mr. Lawson.
That was just one of Lawson’s THREE sacks on the afternoon as Cincinnati fell 27-24 to Green Bay in overtime. He had by far the best week of any former Auburn player in the league with that performance at Lambeau.
On the other side of the coin, Cam Newton did not have a good game. I was there. It was not good. Cammy Cam threw for just 167 yards and three interceptions in a 34-13 loss at home to the previously-winless New Orleans Saints. He did rush for a touchdown, which momentarily got the crowd into the game, but one of those interceptions came shortly after, giving the Saints a short field and effectively iced the game.
Over in London, it was Corey Grant’s turn to outshine Leonard Fournette. The former Tiger tailback ran for 75 yards on six carries (with this fake punt earning most of those yards), but he also caught an 18-yard pass in the 44-7 victory by the Jags over the Ravens. Not a bad day across the pond.
Other guys include Ricardo Louis with a catch for 10 yards in the Browns’ loss to the Colts, Quan Bray snagged a 22-yard pass for Indy on the other side of that one, and Jonathan Jones made three tackles in New England’s 36-33 win over the Texans.
Overall, not a huge day for former Tigers, but Carl Lawson led the way with his multi-sack performance against Green Bay. Here’s to hoping he continues that strong start to his career and gets the recognition he deserves.
War Eagle.
