Auburn search for a new head softball coach ended today with the announcement by AD Jay Jacobs of the hiring of Mickey Dean to take over as the new skipper for the Tigers.

Dean comes to the Plains from James Madison where he had a .809 winning percentage (237-56) in five years. His last two years with the Dukes saw 50 and 52 win seasons. He has coached 11 years on the college level and six in the pros.

He was the head coach for the Chicago Bandits from 2004-10, guiding Chicago to the National Pro Fastpitch regular season championships five times, winning the title in 2008. While coaching the Bandits he was named NPF Manager of the Year three times.

On the collegiate level Dean has been named the conference coach of the year eight times. He’s taken seven teams to the NCAA Tournament and won nine conference championships. In addition to coaching the 2017 National Player of the Year, Megan Good, he has produced seven All-Americans, 40 all-region, and 76 all-conference players.

Pitching is Dean’s expertise. He was the pitching coach for the Venezuelan National Team (2002-08) and his Dukes’ players broke over 40 pitching records in the last five years at James Madison.

This will be a great opportunity for the 40 year old as he is taking over an elite program that is stocked with talent. And the fact that he has coached on the international and professional levels should be a big plus in continuing to recruit top talent to Auburn.

“It is an honor to be named the leader of the Auburn softball program. [I’m thankful] for the exciting opportunity to lead this program,” said Dean. “We want the fans to be as excited as we are to come out and watch the program represent them in the highest standing.”

Welcome Coach Dean and …

War Eagle!
