SEC Media Days is Back and There’s Nothing Else Like It

SEC Media Days gets underway this morning at 11:30 am CT. If it feels like the annual event comes earlier each year, it’s because it does. Traditionally an indicator that the season is just around the corner, the SEC production now happens nearly a month before the first fall practice.

Arkansas will be the first team at the podium. Never one to shy away from making controversial statements, you got to wonder what Bret Bielema may say on the first day? Maybe that’s why the SEC Network chose to do a segment on him titled a, “Full Day with Bielema.” The Network will have a camera crew travel with the Coach and his contingent of players from Fayetteville to Hoover.

There’s nothing else like SEC Media Days. It’s uniquely Southern. No other conference can match the atmosphere of Hoover, Alabama.

There will be more outlandish stories told and reported but usually the biggest news to emerge from the meeting is who the media will pick as their favorite to win the SEC.

Will it be Auburn, who most likely starts a highly touted new quarterback in Jarrett Stidham and  has a strong returning defense? Or will it be Alabama, who seems to be set for a return to Atlanta at season’s end?

My guess is the press will find it too enticing not to go with the media darling, Alabama. I don’t know about you, but that’s completely fine with me…

Gus Malzahn will be first up on the big stage Thursday and will be joined by safety Tray Matthews, kicker Daniel Carlson and offensive lineman Braden Smith. They will be followed by Ole Miss and South Carolina.

Coverage will pretty much run all day through Thursday on the SEC Network and ESPN U. You can also watch coverage at work on the Watch ESPN app. AubTigerman posts the entire schedule here.

Coming as it does in the middle of summer; it’s a welcome respite from the slow almost non existent college football news this time of year. But even though we know its some ways off, just seeing those coaches and players arrive in Birmingham puts a little bounce in your step.

Until next time …
