From the Editor: I Wish to Make an Announcement, Pt. II

The world is changed. I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.

I’d like to start by introducing myself to everyone — my name is Jack Condon and I’ll be the new managing editor of College and Magnolia. To be honest, this is something that I hoped would happen several years ago when I saw an opening on a different SB Nation college site and thought to myself how great it would be if College and Mag had an opening. I suppose patience pays off, because here we are now.

I know how much Walt did for the site, and I hope to replicate that and continue to foster the community the way he did. I was a loyal follower of the site since before Walt took over, and it’s always been one of the first online visits I make every day. That’s to say, there’s already a great wealth of talent here, so I’d have to royally screw it up to send this site underwater.

For my Auburn qualifications, I’m a second-generation Tiger. Both parents spent their college years in the Loveliest Village, and I’ve been sitting in all corners of Jordan-Hare, Beard-Eaves, and Plainsman Park since I can remember. I clutched my mom’s sweater when things looked bleak against (then) Southeast Louisiana back in the mid-nineties, I practiced chanting “Touchdown Auburn” during pregame before we were shut-out by USC in 2003, and I sat rain-drenched and downtrodden three years later while Matthew Stafford ran slow quarterback draws against us all afternoon. However, I was also there for countless Cadillac thrillers, a last-ditch effort from Jamarcus Russell turned away a few yards short, and zone reads galore during my final go-around as a student. I graduated in 2011 after having spent an exhilarating final football season with Cam, Nick, Gene, Gus, and all the rest.

In my professional life I’ve been a part of Auburn radio broadcasts for nearly a decade, starting with stuttering play-by-play at Jane B. Moore Field on a cold February weeknight in 2009, and weaving down a road that included being some of the last people to leave the stadium after football games over my final two years, to sitting in the broadcast studio for the Miracle at Jordan-Hare and Kick Six broadcasts.

That said, all I hope to do is keep the Auburn content flowing freely and to foster the type of different things that I’ve come to expect from College and Magnolia. It’s not just news and notes here, but deeper, harder-hitting pieces that reach further into what it means to be an Auburn man or woman. If all goes according to plan, there shouldn’t be a noticeable difference in the way the site was run before. It’s already a great establishment, I just hope to continue the tradition. Glad to be part of the family once again. It should be a fun ride. So for now, War Eagle. Let’s go to work.

(And for Walt, despite the sub-header at the beginning of this announcement, things aren’t really changing all that much. I just also couldn’t resist following along with a Lord of the Rings quote in homage to our outgoing leader.)
