Boom! 2019 4-star Wide Receiver George Pickens Commits To Auburn!

The Tigers just landed their first commitment for the 2019 class and it’s a big one.

How’s that for a Friday surprise? 4* WR George Pickens has apparently committed to Auburn, kicking off what could be a big time weekend for the Tigers on the recruiting trail. From what I can tell, Keith Niebuhr was the first to break the news on Twitter moments ago:

Pickens landed an offer while attending Auburn’s Tiger Night camp earlier in June where he showed out. The 6’5” 190 lb wide receiver is expected to be a major cog in Hoover’s passing game this fall. He’s also the 2nd Hoover Buc WR to commit to Auburn this summer joining 3* WR Shedrick Jackson. As of now, he only holds five offers but that will no doubt change down the road. Pickens is expected to be one of the top players in the 2019 class in the state of Alabama.

Scouting Report

The first thing that jumps out is his tremendous size. At 6’5” 195 lbs, he’s a very physically imposing figure. He will need to put a bit more weight on that frame but that’s common for most rising juniors in high school. From all accounts, his hands were one of the big reasons he landed an offer earlier this summer, snagging basically anything thrown his way. I believe he has only had limited varsity snaps up to this point but that will change in a hurry this fall. This is a kid with a ton of big time potential and could challenge for the top spot in the state in next year’s class.

The Class

Pickens is the first pickup in Auburn’s 2019 recruiting class. Auburn doesn’t usually load up early on commitments though that could change moving forward with the new early signing period. Either way, getting someone of Pickens’s calibre on board early is a great way to start off next year’s class. Also, Auburn seems to have made some major inroads in Hoover, a long time Alabama pipeline. Darrell Williams is already on campus and now the Tigers hold commits from Shedrick Jackson and George Pickens. Never a bad thing to start consistently pulling talent from one of the top instate schools.
