2017 NCAA Tournament Tallahassee Regional: Auburn and FSU Play For Regional Title Monday Night

The Tigers dropped Sunday night's game and now have one more chance to move on.

Auburn went to #3 starter Davis Daniel last night with the hope of sealing the Regional finale and earning a trip to the Super Regional. It quickly became apparent that Daniel just didn't have what was needed.

So, instead, Auburn went to Cole Lipscomb. Lipscomb pitched 1 inning Friday night to finish off Keegan Thompson's performance against UCF. He hadn't pitched more than 5 innings this entire year.

What Auburn got out of Lipscomb was nothing short of marvelous. At one point, after giving up a 3-run shot early, Cole retired 15 straight batters. Meanwhile, Auburn slowly tried to work their way back at the plate.

After going down 6-2 in the 2nd, Auburn added a run in the 3rd and the 7th. They came to the 9th needing 2 to keep the game going. They got 3 thanks to Jonah Todd and Josh Anthony to take a 7-6 lead.

Cole came back in to try to finish out the Bottom of the 9th and got two quick outs. A walk and a triple with a 3-2 count let the Seminoles tie the game, though. Cole was pulled after a pitching effort that easily rivals those of Thompson and Mize in the first two games of the Regional.

With the game in extra innings, Auburn couldn't get things going at the plate. Andrew Mitchell and Calvin Coker attempted to secure the win for the Tigers, but the game ended on a strange note with 2-out walks, a liner up the middle that hit Coker and resulted in bases loaded, and then a walk-off hit-by-pitch to give the Seminoles the victory.

Auburn and Florida State will now play tonight at 6:00 pm Central with a Super Regional birth on the line. And, with Sam Houston State defeating Texas Tech in Game 1 of their Regional Finale, it could be a chance to HOST a Super Regional. Right now, we don't know exactly who Auburn's starter will be. All that we do know is that it will either be Ryan Watson or Gabe Klobosits.

You can watch the game on WatchESPN. Currently, it is not scheduled to be broadcast.

One game is all that stands between Auburn and either a Super Regional birth or the end of the season. Keep going, Tigers!
