News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

WHY WE ARE FANS

You may have noticed that the site looks a little different. That's a new SB Nation redesign and it's network wide. The network is also running a campaign on "Why You Are A Fan." A few of us published articles on that, yesterday, which you can find in this story stream. I'll be adding some older articles to it, soon, too. And, when the FanPost contest is over, I'll collect the best and link them into a Front Page post.

BASEBALL

Well. That sucked. Auburn was on the bad end of a historic night in the SEC Tournament. The 12-0 no-hit, run-rule loss to Arkansas shouldn't affect the Tigers going to the NCAA Tournament, but it definitely didn't help with anything.

BASKETBALL

The schedule for the 2018 Big 12 / SEC Challenge was announced, yesterday. Auburn is not among the teams taking part. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Auburn sweeping the Big 12 opponents they played last year, but I'm claiming that's the reason, anyway.

SOFTBALL

The Super Regional begins today! Auburn and Oklahoma face off for a trip to the Women's College World Series. The official site's preview and hub are up, now. Our preview will hit a little later this morning.

Kasey Cooper was once again named an Academic All-American. That's no surprise given that she almost has a 4.0 for her 4 years of college and is an engineering major.

FOOTBALL

Auburn opens as a 5 touchdown favorite over Georgia Southern in the season opener. There's a part of me that says that's a good bet and there's another part of me that says there's no way it's that big a difference. I'll go into more detail later in a season preview, but the short version is if this were Auburn's D against last year's abomination of a Georgia Southern offense, then go with that 5 touchdowns. However, Georgia Southern is back running the triple option. The option will eat a ton of clock and limit possessions and is tough to defend, so fully expect to see Georgia Southern score a TD or two. However, however, this is a GS team full of players who have never run the true option and they'll be breaking in a new QB (likely a RS FR), too, so there will be turnovers. Of course, last time Auburn played GS the Eagles were breaking in an RS FR QB, too, and that game was 17-3 GS at the half.

Auburn is "certainly open" to the idea of going to the SEC East. Well no shit.
