Auburn Hires Missouri Cornerbacks Coach Greg Brown as Defensive Backs Coach

The Tigers have found a replacement for Wesley McGriff and he comes from another group of Tigers.

Gus Malzahn reportedly told a recruit that he wanted a coach similar to departed defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff: a veteran with lots of experience. He definitely found that in Missouri cornerbacks coach Greg Brown.

Brown's career started all the way back in 1981 and he's had stints in both college and the NFL. He's spent the last few seasons at Alabama as a secondary coach in 2013 (which means he was on the other side of the Kick Six), Louisville (where he would have coached against Auburn in 2015), and then coaching cornerbacks at Mizzou this season under first-year coach Barry Odom.

Since Mizzou had two different coaches in the secondary this year it's hard to determine who had the most impact. Mizzou's defense only allowed two teams to throw for over 300 yards against them. One was Georgia, and the other was Arkansas in the final game of the season. The hire was welcomed by folks like Cole Cubelic as a good move for recruiting and fundamentals.

With this hire, we should start hearing word from recruits like Auburn target Devon Hunter - who led all competitors in tackling during the US Army All-American Bowl today - and what they think of the hire.
