Here is your one-stop shop for Auburn's 2017 recruiting class.

It's Signing Day! This will be our signing day headquarters article for all of your needs. So, without further ado, here is where to find the info on the newest Auburn Tigers. When a player signs, we'll move his name from "Committed" to "Signed" and link the article. That won't happen until we get the official word that the LOI has been received by Auburn. We don't want repeats of the Byron Cowart saga.

M. Basketball. Jared Harper's hot shooting not enough for Auburn against Tennessee

Harper hit early, often and deep, making five 3-pointers and scoring 21 points, but it wasn't enough Tuesday in Auburn's 87-77 loss to Tennessee.

Auburn Falls to Tennessee 77-87

It could have been much worse, believe it or not.

With the way this game started, Auburn is lucky that the final score was only 10 points. Of course, by that same token, Tennessee is lucky that the game started the way that it did, which was the difference in the game.

The Vols jumped out to big leads early in this one, but Auburn battled back a few times thanks to the shooting of Jared Harper. Auburn only scored 30 points in the first half, and Harper had 18 of them. The freshman was just about Auburn's entire offense.

Unfortunately, the rest of the team was taking single shot possessions, rebounding poorly, and letting Tennessee connect on open shots time after time. The result was a 46 - 30 halftime lead.

The second half was a bit more of a contest, as Auburn battled back and at times looked like it may make an exciting game of it in last period. Every time it happened, though, UT would milk the clock and then drain a crushing basket to re-extend their lead.

In the end, the Tigers just didn't have enough for the Vols. It took too long for Auburn to adjust to the physicality of Tennessee and Rod and Sonny Smith were pointing out that in the first half it looked like Tennessee was playing a half step faster in every facet of the game.

For Auburn, the highlights of the night were Harper and Mustapha Heron - once again in the double-digits - along with Ronnie Johnson scoring. TJ Dunans had yet another game with few points but still played well with attempting to get the ball to the shooters. Auburn finished with only 7 assists on the night, though. Over the course of this season, the magic number for the Tigers seems to be 10. Get to 10 assists and they're almost assured a victory. Fail to do so and they're guaranteed a defeat.

This was a tough loss, but not a back-breaking one. If the course of the game had continued as it was going at the end of the first half, it very well could have been. The final result, however, was a bit more encouraging. The Tigers will attempt to take what they learned in this one and take it to Tuscaloosa this weekend to face an Alabama team that certainly wants revenge for the thrashing they suffered in Auburn two weeks ago.

The Tigers and the Tide  will square off Saturday evening at 7:30pm. War Eagle!

2017 National Signing Day Running Post

For the EIGHTH consecutive year, War Blogle will be THE PLACE to get all of the no-frills Auburn info on National Signing Day. For most outlets, this day is like Christmas and they have a shiny new pet full of all the bells and whistles ready to overload your brains with every signing announcement. Who cares, right? That’s why I’m here.

Keep hitting refresh on this post and you’ll see who signed when and where and maybe even a few predictions and rumors. It’s simple. It’s straight-forward. It’s all you need.

As has become custom for the seven previous years of the National Signing Day Running Posts, I’ll be pulling together all of the best news, pictures, videos, rumors, etc. and putting it all right here. There’s no need to sift through 5,000 tweets to read about a guy signing on the dotted line. I’ll do it for you. All right here. It’s cozy. Stay a while.

In fact, I’ve already got all of Auburn’s early enrollees, hard commitments, and hopeful targets that will pick up a hat at some point listed below. Note: don’t expect many Auburn hats. This class is already pretty much wrapped up. Ain’t no drama, mama. Either way, as the faxes roll in throughout the day, I will post updates here in reverse order to make it easier for you.

To start it off, these guys are already enrolled at Auburn, but they are part of the 2017 class. They are just as important as any guy who puts on an Auburn hat on National Signing Day. In fact, they’re technically better because they’re already going through workouts and will participate in this year’s Spring practice.

Also, as you look at the recruiting rankings throughout the day, remember that the JUCO guys won’t be factored in. So wherever Auburn ends up at the end of Signing Day, just know a few of these would move the Tigers up a spot or 10.

These guys are currently committed to Auburn. Most have been committed for a good while and show no signs of wavering. By the time most of you read this, most guys will have already faxed in their letters.

You’ll notice there are 20 names up there. That’s a pretty full class, but still there are a few guys that Auburn may need to pull in that feel the need to be a little dramatic. I get it.

I don’t believe any of these guys will announce on TV, but we do know some times, so stay here and hit refresh and find out. I’ve also listed my predictions, which are based on next to nothing.

  • Tyler Taylor (4-star LB – Sugar Hill, GA)
    • Teams: Auburn, LSU
    • Prediction: Auburn
  • Markaviest Bryant (4-star DE – Cordele, GA)
    • Time: 10:30 am
    • Teams: Auburn, Georgia, LSU
    • Prediction: Georgia
  • Markail Benton (4-star LB – Phenix City, GA)
    • Teams: Auburn, Alabama (committed)
    • Prediction: Alabama
  • Tyrone Truesdell (3-star DT – Augusta, GA)
    • Teams: Auburn, Florida
    • Prediction: Auburn
  • Matthew Tanner (3-star OL – Jacksonville, FL)
    • Teams: Auburn, Bowling Green (committed)
    • Prediction: Auburn

These are the current rankings from the recruiting services before any signatures have been put to paper. They are just based on current commitments (again, not including JUCO transfers).

ESPN – 12th nationally, 5th in SEC
Rivals – 16th nationally, 6th in SEC
Scout – 9th nationally, 5th in SEC
247 Sports – 9th nationally, 4th in SEC

There will be a live chat at some point later in the day (follow me on Twitter to get updates on that), but feel free to talk about it all in the comments below or over in The Barn. Just for nostalgia, here’s how things went in past years: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 20142015, 2016.

National Signing Day – Track ‘Em Tigers Primer

Ready and Waiting

Hello again and War Eagle!  Here is a bit of a National Signing Day primer where we re-visit what we know along with a couple of new developments that have occurred during the past 24 hours.

Track ‘Em Tigers will be hosting the NSD Live Open Thread starting at 7:00 CT and will be providing updates all day until all is said and done. We enthusiastically encourage you to sign on and join in with your thoughts and comments. And I will make an indefatigable effort not to let you down!

Within the past 24 hours Auburn lost DL Ryan Johnson to Stanford and OG Matthew Tanner went from “99%” to “very likely” to “gone” as the JUCO transfer has now committed to Bowling Green.

Taking the above into account, and averaged across six nationally recognized recruiting sites, places Auburn’s current rank at #12 nationally and 4th in the SEC with room to move either way depending on NSD outcomes.

Who to watch:

Tyler Taylor – 6-2 230 ILB is set to announce at 7:45 AM CT and it now appears he will choose between Auburn, LSU, and OK.

Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant – 6-4 226 DE is set to announce at 10:30 AM CT and lists Auburn, LSU, and UGA as his top three.

Tyrone Truesdell – 6-3 325 DT has not set a time to announce but it appears he is down to either Auburn or Florida.

The remainder of those committed to Auburn as well as those already enrolled follow…

T-Minus Ten Days

19038_ADS_0282p

It’s been six months since Track ‘Em Tigers wrapped up the 2016 softball season which ended in a heartbreaking scene for the Auburn softball team and their fans. The matchup between Oklahoma and Auburn featured a contrast of styles. The Sooners were a team anchored by an ace pitcher and a fantastic defense among the very top in defensive efficiency. On the other side was a team with a “pitch by committee” approach, who made occasional mistakes in the field, but could hit the ball like few other teams. On that day, the former won out.

While Oklahoma players stormed the field for yet another Women’s College World Series Championship, the Tigers wrapped their arms around freshman Courtney Shea. The young player, with tears streaming down her face, offered a tear-soaked apology after she grounded the final out in a pinch at-bat with two outs. Even as the Sooners  celebrated, it was the Auburn team that most every follower of the game said “watch out for that team next year.”

In 2017, fans will see the combination of coach Clint Myers’ coaching and recruiting for truly the first time. While he and his staff have done a tremendous job at coaching the previous staff’s players which include Rhodes, Carosone, Howard, and All-World Kasey Cooper, it will be the development of his recruits such as Shea that will be on display this year. He wasn’t shy about throwing the young players into the fire last season and while the outgoing 2016 Tigers’ season will become folklore, it will be the innings played and the at-bats for the young players throughout that season that will pay massive dividends in the future.

The words “can’t miss softball” are not frequently uttered, yet they should be. In a world where opening weekend neutral site football games for premier programs is all the rage, softball has done its best to capture that same atmosphere.

In T-Minus Ten days, softball fans are going to get just that. It begins against the very team where the last Tigers left off: the Oklahoma Sooners. The two teams will square off on February 9th in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. As mentioned, the book is out on the Sooners, and that book is very good thanks to the superb coaching of  Patty Gasso. Not so for the Tigers.

Other than Kasey Cooper playing third, not much is known about the Tigers and it isn’t because of talent. Starting just to Cooper’s left, there will be a big-time battle between Haley Fagan, who missed most of the year due to injury and her 2016 replacement Whitney Jordan. Late in the season, Fagan’s bat earned her the designated hitter spot, but that isn’t necessarily the case this year as Auburn is loaded with hitters thanks to the return of Cody Myers, who spent last season with the San Diego Padres. In his absence Auburn’s hitting slumped from .339 to .317 as a team.

For an even more deeper look at the depth, look no further than catcher. On most teams, Carlee Wallace would be a no-questions starter. Yet Courtney Shea has been a big stick at the plate in limited opportunities, hitting .225 while belting eight homers and has perhaps more upside from inside the box than Wallace who hit .287 with five homers.

There will also be positional battles everywhere on the field, including in the circle where freshman ace Ashlee Swindell will make the rest of the pitching staff fight for appearances, although fellow pitcher Kaylee Carlson is listed as one of the ten juniors to watch this season. Other questions remain: who will lock down the vacated 2nd base left by Carosone? Will senior Jenna Abbott find a place on the field?

“It was interesting, the four coaches on Thursday submitted lineups, if we started today, what your lineup would be,” Myers said. “And we had four different lineups. We couldn’t agree on nine players.” Coach went on to say “If somebody doesn’t do the job, if we’re not mentally in to the process of execution, somebody else may be given [the start] because they’ve had a good week of practice.” That’s a great problem to have and it will likely be on full displace on February 2nd at 1PM on ESPNU. Make sure to follow me on Twitter as I live tweet reactions to the game.

How to Watch Auburn vs Tennessee Live Online, Time, TV Schedule, and More

The Tigers welcome the Vols to Auburn Arena

The Tigers return home to Auburn Arena tonight to face the Tennessee Volunteers. Auburn is fresh off a big win over TCU in Ft. Worth as well as a dominating home victory over the Tide. Oh, and there was that whole South Carolina game sandwiched in between.

Tennessee has had quite the three-game streak. They've knocked off Mississippi State, #4 Kentucky, and then Kansas State in the Big XII / SEC Challenge. Their SEC slate didn't start out that way, though, with losses to Arkansas, Florida, and South Carolina. Those are not three teams who any team should be ashamed of losing to, though.

So which Auburn team will show up to face the Vols? They're led by senior guard Robert Hubbs III, averaging 15 points per game. They also have their own freshmen stars in Grant Williams, Lamonte Turner, and Jordan Bowden.

The Vols are averaging 77.6 points per game and giving up 73.6. That compares to Auburn averaging 79 points per game and allowing 76.6. With that, it's easy to see why this game is a push. The two teams are evenly matched in almost every statistical category.

The one big advantage Auburn does have is height (when was the last time THAT was the case in a SEC game?). Tennessee only has one player over 6'7, and he doesn't get that many minutes. Auburn has a number of big men who could cause havoc for the Vols.

The Tigers have their freshmen getting better with each game and the supporting cast finding their way, as well. TJ Dunans didn't score that many points in the victory over TCU, but he was a force in that game, nonetheless. Mustapha Heron and Jerod Harper are continuing their level of play. Danjel Purifoy has been limited while coming back from his ankle injury.

Meanwhile, there's Austin Wiley. He's become a beast for the Tigers under the bucket and just gets better with every passing game. Here's to hoping that continues with a game here at home in Auburn Arena.

The Tigers are still fighting for a post-season spot. They were even mentioned in the "others receiving votes" category of some of the polls this week! Knocking off the Vols before heading to Tuscaloosa this Saturday would go a long way to reaching that goal.

Go get 'em, Tigers!

News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

SUPER BOWL

Auburn has more of a connection to the Super Bowl than just a few players playing in it. There is also one of Auburn's primary grounds people helping to make sure that the turf in Houston is in perfect shape for the game. That's pretty cool and also very justified when you consider how beautiful Jordan-Hare Stadium looks every game.

BASKETBALL

The official site has a feature on Mustapha Heron and his improved defensive play as part of the Tigers' recent success. Heron really is the complete player.

The Tigers are playing a Tennessee team who is coming in hot off a few very good victories. Bruce Pearl knows that and is preparing his team for the challenge.

FOOTBALL

Normally I like Wesley Sinor and his Auburn stuff. In another example of "AL.com Headlines," though, there's this one: "Auburn JUCO Target Commits to Bowling Green." He didn't have a committable offer from Auburn, so a headline that makes it sound like someone Auburn wanted instead went to Bowling Green is more than a little misleading.

Sorry for the lack of stuff, here, but I've been swamped getting signing day pre-writes done as well as preparing other things I've got going on, and there also just weren't that many stories out there. So, this is all ya get today until the "How to Watch and Preview" post goes up for the Basketball game this afternoon.

Auburn Scores Huge Road Win, Vols Come to the Plains

30917_9844685p

The fourth annual SEC/Big XII Challenge tipped off this past week and the SEC was 0-3 n the series causing many to speculate that it was now or never for the SEC to change the perception of the league. After all, the SEC has reloaded with quality coaches over the last three years. As had been typical, the SEC dropped the first two games but rattled off four straight wins, putting them on the cusp of beating a powerhouse basketball conference. All that remained was the SEC’s blueblood, Kentucky, and one of its resident dumpster dwellers, Auburn.

Auburn was playing in Fort Worth against a team that many believe will make the Big Dance – the TCU Horned Frogs. Few gave the Tigers any chance of winning, especially considering the 98-69 slaughter that Auburn had endured just days before to South Carolina, a team also headed to the NCAA tournament.

Before a sold-out crowd at Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena, the nearly all freshman Tigers controlled most of the first half, leading by as much as eight points before setting for a 45-43 halftime score, despite the fact that TCU’s 6-11 forward Vladimir Brodziansky was nearly perfect from the floor. Auburn seemed to have no answer for the big man, but the truth was that it wasn’t nearly about his talent than Auburn’s defense being completely out of position for much of the half. TCU’s Alex Robinson and JD Miller continued to sneak passes around Auburn’s defense in the paint, leading to some very easy buckets.

Despite the nearly perfect start for Brodziansky, who finished 7-9 from the floor for 19 points, Auburn’s offense covered up for the young team’s defensive woes. Mustapha Heron had another double-digit scoring performance extending his own record, as he was 7-11 from the field including 1-1 from beyond the arc, on his way to 17 points. And Auburn got another terrific outing from Jared Harper, who finished with 13 points and four assists.

However, the star of the game was easily Austin Wiley, who had a game that destroyed the expectations fans had come to hold of the young player. Everyone expects the young man to become a great player for Auburn, but most had seen his struggles, especially with the physicality that comes with the college game. The player who has been out of highschool for mere weeks and should be attending his senior prom in the next few days has struggled at finishing buckets when he knows he is going to be fouled. Additionally, he has been out-muscled down low – Not this game.

Wiley wanted the rock on the blocks and when he was guarded, he went up with authority time and time again. This time, instead of tossing an errant shot to draw two free throws, No. 50 went up strong and finished the play. Wiley scored 25 points, a career high, and added four offensive rebounds.

As a team, the Tigers seemed to transform in front of their fans. The perimeter shooting team that couldn’t rebound finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds while shooting under 30% from long distance and over 50% elsewhere. Still, the team wasn’t very good elsewhere, finishing at 60% from the charity stripe and 19 turnovers.

Typically, the play of one player isn’t enough to overcome those numbers. Enter Anfernee McLemore. The oft-forgotten freshman had struggled to see the floor early in the season as he played fourth fiddle to the rotation of Horace Spencer, Austin Wiley, and LaRon Smith. With Smith fading from the picture and a new lineup that features Spencer and Wiley playing together, McLemore has begun to log more and more minutes. McLemore struggled early in the season, due to a lack of minutes, though his athleticism and effort were hard to ignore. However, in the last three games, McLemore has found a good groove. McLemore was quietly 6-6 from the field, scoring 13 points, a block, a steal and, most importantly, three offensive rebounds. He did all of this in just 18 minutes of play.

Not to be forgotten, slasher T.J. Dunans didn’t have a very good night shooting the basketball, but he added seven rebounds and a whopping seven assists.

The Tigers led by as many as 21 points in the second half, but youth caught right back up to them. Exceedingly poor play down the stretch allowed TCU to turn that deficit into a manageable game very late. Still, Auburn left Ft. Worth with a much-needed 88-80 win. It cannot be overstated just what a road win against a good team means with this young team. The win by Auburn insured that, for the first time, the SEC would not lose this challenge. Unfortunately, Ole Miss and Kentucky couldn’t pull out wins and the SEC settled for a tie.

The Tigers host Tennessee tonight (1/31/2017) in a very important matchup.

Like the Tigers, the Crimson Tide, and many other SEC teams, the Volunteers are looking to fill the gap behind Kentucky that had been vacated by Florida after the departure of Billy Donovan. Most of these teams are in very critical junctures of their coach’s young tenure.

Much like Auburn circa 2000, Tennessee has been a tournament team behind Kentucky, most recently under former UT coach and current Auburn coach Bruce Pearl.

The Vols are 12-9, but 4-4 in conference after two good wins against Kentucky and then Kansas State. The Tigers enter the contest with a 14-7 record, but are 3-5 in-conference play. The winner of this game maintains a spot in the middle of the conference, which would be the staging point for a decent run in the SEC tournament, avoiding the better conference teams.

The two teams are quite similar in statistics, though they get the job done by different means. Auburn is still a very good three-point shooting team and the Vols are not. Both teams are dead even in rebounds and assists.

The Vols feature nearly four players who score in double-digits per game, led by Robert Hubbs, III who averages 15 points per contest. Tennessee averages a whopping 77 points per game while holding opponents to 74, which ranks 223rd and is an area Auburn can exploit. Obviously, Auburn has the same issue with letting teams score. The Tigers check in at 276th. This has the makings of a shoot-out.

The match tips off at 8PM on the SEC Network. Make sure to follow me on Twitter as I live tweet the game @Best5Zach

NSD 2017 – Join TET for our Wednesday LiveBlog

AU_NSD

Ah, National Signing Day 2017 – The official visits are over and those who follow recruiting await Wednesday with anticipation hoping those recruits targeted by Auburn’s coaching staff choose to play for the Tigers.

National Signing Day is one of those yearly occurances that fans seem to either like, dislike, or fall somewhere in the middle. Yes, we are speaking of, mostly, teenage recruits assigned some number of “stars” that may or may not mean anything in the long run and Jay posted a great article to such effect. I follow recruiting simply because it’s Auburn football, and until spring practices start, it’s about the only Auburn football topic this time of the year.

Depending on the sources, Auburn currently has 5 signees and either 15 or 20 commitments and, personally, I’m not sure which of the sources is more accurate. It doesn’t really matter at this point.

I will include, as best possible, those commitments above the LiveBlog on Wednesday and then we will post live updates all day as recruits make their choices.

I’m not sure we will experience some of the drama of last year as picking up something of an unexpected 5* to close out the day rates pretty high.

Auburn definitely wants pen to paper for 5* OT Calvin Ashley who, last week, shut down all visits and contacts saying, “I love Auburn”.

4* DE Markaviest “Big Cat” Bryant has a decision to make and, with Auburn being his last official visit, this could potentially bode well for this year’s signing class.

4* LB Tyler Taylor seems destined to be a Tiger but of what variety? This appears to be down to Auburn or LSU.

3* OG Matthew Tanner, a JUCO transfer, previously said there was a 99% chance that he would choose Auburn. His latest comment says that signing with Auburn is “very likely”.

Auburn seems to be one of two remaining choices for 3* DT Tyrone Truesdell so we will see how that shakes out.

And, the first scholarship offer by new OC Chip Lindsey went to 3* TE John Samuel Shenker who committed not long afterward.

The LiveBlog will be online starting at 9:00 CT Wednesday and we hope you will join us here and take part with your comments and insight.

As always, It’s Great to be an Auburn Tiger and…

WAR EAGLE

News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet

BASKETBALL

The ladies have dominated Alabama over the last few years. They continued that last night with a come-from-behind victory (something they specialize in this season) in the 4th quarter to knock off the Tide 66-55.

Would you call Auburn's 88-80 defeat of TCU on the road a signature win? Maybe not. However, it was a huge win for the program and a big win to bounce back from the South Carolina game. Bruce Pearl is having by far his best season of his three years and we're watching players like Austin Wiley grow up before our eyes.

Oh, and Wiley did this all while he was sick.

BASEBALL

Keegan Thompson is back on the mound for Auburn and that's great news for the Tigers. He's aiming to be the starter on opening day.

TENNIS

The ladies have been on a rise over the last few seasons with getting into later rounds of the NCAA Championships. They continued that rise with a win over USC this weekend to make it to the National Indoor Championships for the first time in school history.

FOOTBALL

Auburn needs tight ends. Last year, we only had Jalen Harris on scholarship. He caught two passes for two touchdowns. There is a reason Auburn added a JUCO TE and now just yesterday accepted the commitment from yet another TE.

National Signing Day is the Wednesday! Auburn will have a ton of different ways on multiple platforms to follow the excitement.

Stanton Truitt is heading to North Carolina. He should do very well there and we wish him the best. Because of his injury issues, he'll have two years to play as a graduate transfer for the Tar Heels.

The Senior Bowl was this weekend and Monty Adams continued his upward trend from his senior season. He had a number of tackles and even a fumble recovery.

National Signing Day Is Only Part of the Story

hi-res-ed9ed5c6f2e272cb5b02b564f8559f66_crop_northAs we head toward National Signing Day, Auburn is headed for its fifth consecutive Top 10 finish per the experts. Wake me up when they finish in the Top 10 where it counts. Recruiting services are silly.

There is as much politics as ability involved in getting those recruiting stars. Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville told me a story years ago about discovering a quarterback in the Atlanta area. He was under the radar and got little attention. Once Auburn and then Georgia showed interest, the kid garnered three-stars by the services. Prior to that, he was a blip.

I’ve never understood why these websites don’t wait five years to rate the classes. That’s when it means something. Actually, we do know why they do it now. It’s huge business and means millions of dollars for these websites.

There will be far more misses on Wednesday than hits. Future three-stars will become All Americans in time, while some five-star can’t miss guys will ultimately transfer to other programs and never be heard from again.

Some will hit the mark. Some won’t. Stars are optional.

Signing day is fun. Just understand, it’s mainly for entertainment purposes. Nick Saban gets a lot of attention for his recruiting classes. Where he makes his money is developing them into players. Don’t get me wrong. Talent is important. Being able to scientifically rate it from coast-to-coast is horse crap.

Kids come from big schools and small ones. They come from large cities and tiny communities. Some are mature enough to handle the transition. Others are stuck in the glory days of high school.

In four years about half of Auburn’s class will be gone. That’s normal. More important than the stars beside their names is whether they have the intangibles and work ethic to make it. Running a 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds is important. But it’s hardly that simple.

Enjoy National Signing Day. But, take it for what it is…

Entertainment.

Three Star Tight End John Samuel Shenker Commits to Auburn

Auburn adds commitment #20 for 2017 in the position where the Tigers have the most need for improved depth.

If you want to know how Chip Lindsey's offensive style may differ from the style Auburn has used over the last few years, then look no further than today's commitment of 3* tight end John Samuel Shenker of Colquitt County, GA.

If you're wondering why Auburn suddenly got in on the recruitment of Shenker - whose only other P5 offer was Wake Forest and was likely Georgia Southern-bound before Auburn offered - look no further than Shenker's high school head coach. That would be one Rush Probst. Probst has a connection with Auburn OC Chip Lindsey, and the Tigers offered Shenker shortly after Lindsey was hired.

Shenker, at 6'3, 245 lbs, isn't the tallest of tight ends. He somewhat fits in as the tweener of WR/Tight end. I don't know enough about him to know whether this is a reach or if he may be a diamond in the rough, but we know his high school coach thinks he's talented. Auburn has the depth in most every position not to reach, but tight end is definitely the spot where Auburn needs bodies. There's also the manner in which Lindsey uses his H-Back/TE position that means the Tigers need more traditional TE type players than the fullbacks.

HIGHLIGHTS

THE CLASS

Auburn dropped a bit in the rankings when Octavius Matthews decommitted the other day. Shenker doesn't move the Tigers back up to their previous position, but he does help. He puts the Tigers back at 20 commitments for the season as we're approaching Signing Day. The Tigers are 10th in the nation and 5th in the SEC. The teams ahead of Auburn have more commits, though. In some cases (Alabama and Texas A&M) those schools have 5 or more commits than Auburn.

Will Shenker be the last tight end of the 2017 class? Perhaps. I would say probably, but you never know. Auburn only has two scholarship tight ends on the team heading into spring, so depth is very necessary. We'll find out soon enough, as National Signing Day is this Wednesday.

Three Former Auburn Stars Set to Compete at Super Bowl LI

It’s that time of year again: the Super Bowl is here. The culmination of the NFL regular season has arrived and football fans across the globe will be excited to watch one of the greatest sporting events of the year.

This season, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will be taking on the Atlanta Falcons at NRG Stadium in Houston and we’re delighted to say that three former Auburn college players will be competing in this year’s event – more than every program apart from Alabama.

With Josh Harris playing for the Falcons and Jonathan Jones and Brandon King flying the flag for New England, one thing is for sure: Auburn will win no matter who lifts the Vince Lombardi Trophy. In this article, we’ve taken a look at our three former athletes and profiled their respective careers ahead of what could be one of the best Super Bowl contests in recent history.

Josh Harris (Long snapper)
Harris joined the Auburn programme back in 2007 after attending a tryout for walk-ons on his first day on campus – and the rest is history. The Tigers star redshirted and served as a backup for the first two years of his career before maturing into Auburn’s snapper for punts, field goals and extra points in 2009.

In 2011, he delivered the snap for Wes Byrum’s game-winning field goal in the National Championship game against Oregon; a moment that will live long in the memory for Auburn followers. If called upon, the ever-reliable Harris will be ready to help Atlanta in their bid to win a first Super Bowl title, and his personal journey from tryout to college championship to NFL title will live with him forever.

Jonathan Jones (Cornerback)
Meanwhile, Jones will be looking to make an impact on the other side of the field as the Patriots seek a fifth Super Bowl ring. New England, priced at 8/13 to win in the bet365 NFL betting odds, have a plethora of talent in their secondary but Jones could prove useful in Matt Patricia’s unique defensive scheme.

Two years ago, Malcom Butler was a nobody. His interception in the final stages of the victory over the Seattle Seahawks transformed him into a superstar overnight. Jones was an undrafted rookie coming out of college but if anybody can take him to the next level, it is Bill Belichick. His Week 14 play against the Baltimore Ravens led to a Patriots safety and the former Auburn man could be a pivotal figure on the biggest stage of them all.

Brandon King (Safety)
Truth be told, Brandon King suits the Patriots down to the ground. Belichick has always preferred those ‘hybrid’ safeties that can play deep or come up and fill in as a linebacker and that is exactly what King has in his locker. Since joining the New England roster in 2015, King has made 22 tackles – forcing one fumble against the Buffalo Bills last season.

The former Auburn Tigers man could step up and make a game changing play if needed; whether that is on defense or special teams. In 2015, he finished second on the Patriots for most special teams tackles and his ability to pin opposing returners downfield could prove crucial in the battle for field position at NRG Stadium on February 5th. Watch this space; King could pop up with a big moment or two.

Highlights of Auburn’s 88-80 Win over TCU

This past Saturday, Auburn traveled to Fort Worth, TX to take on the TCU Horned Frogs as part of the SEC-Big 12 Challenge. The first half was close with Auburn having the 2-point lead at the half, but the 2nd half was a different story. Auburn played defense, made shots, got up by 21 at one point, and ended up with an 8-point win. TCU isn’t bad, this is good. And Austin Wiley is a man.

Auburn Defeats TCU 88-80 in the Big XII / SEC Challenge

Auburn is undefeated in Big XII play this year and got a much-needed rebound victory over the Horned Frogs!

Auburn and Bruce Pearl needed a big win after their last game. They got it in a true road win over a good Big XII team tonight in a dominating performance by the Tigers in Ft. Worth.

With every passing game, Austin Wiley continues to get better. That is scary for opposing teams. After a slow first half, he exploded in the second for a career-high 25 points. He was an epic force under the basket. I really thought TCU big man Vladimir Brodziansky would challenge him as the older and more experienced player, but that was not the case.

The Tigers jumped out to some leads in the first half, but iffy defense let the Horned Frogs stay around. Though they were horrible from beyond the arc, they were still able to hang around and go into the half in a close game.

In the second half, Auburn came out ready to play and really turned it on. The defense was fantastic for most of the second frame and Austin Wiley's explosion of points helped the Tigers get out to a 21 point lead. TCU had turnover issues - getting a season high of 18 - which greatly helped the Tigers, especially late.

The big lead struggles came back in the final 2-3 minutes, though as TCU cut the lead to 11 points with 1:30 to play in the game. TCU fought even harder with their backs against the wall and Auburn helped with a few bad shots, bad turnovers, and some missed free throws, as well.

The Tigers were able to close it out for the 88-80 victory, though, and do their part for the SEC in the Big XII / SEC Challenge.

Auburn's freshmen were on fire again. Danjel Purifoy has been struggling since his injury, but the Tigers are still doing some big things. Austin Wiley led the team with his 25 points and 7 rebounds. Mustapha Heron had 17 points and 6 rebounds, Jared Harper had 13 points, and Anfernee McLemore added 13, as well. TJ Dunans only finished with 4 points, but his impact on the game can't be understated. He was dishing the ball all around and was a large part of Auburn's 23 assists.

This game was exactly what Auburn needed. They'll take this back to Auburn to face Tennessee - who defeated Kansas State 70-58 in their Big XII game following their Kentucky upset - this Tuesday night at 7pm Central.

How to Watch Auburn vs TCU Live Online, Time, TV Channel, and More

The Big XII / SEC Challenge is today!

After an embarrassing performance in Columbia Tuesday night, the Tigers are looking to bounce back with a good road win over the TCU Horned Frogs in Ft Worth this afternoon as part of the annual Big XII / SEC Challenge. I don't know why, but it seems like Auburn is always on the road for these things other than last season.

The Horned Frogs are 14-6 on the season and are currently 6th in the Big XII. The two teams actually share two common opponents so far this season in Texas Tech and Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs defeated the Sooners 60-57 on their home court (Auburn's 74-70 victory was on a neutral court) and lost to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock 75 - 69. Auburn defeated Texas Tech 67-65 in Cancun near the start of the year.

With the similar records (Auburn is 13-7), Auburn having the better record against common opponents, and TCU on a three-game losing streak, you would think this sets up nicely for Auburn. Then again, this is on their home court and Auburn is coming off a horrific loss.

TCU is led in scoring by - no joke - junior Vladimir Blodziansky from Slovakia. He's 6'11, 220 lbs and is averaging 13.8 points per game. If that seems low for a team leader, know that the Frogs have 5 players averaging 8 or more points per game, so they're spreading the points around.  Blodziansky should be quite the match-up for Auburn freshman Austin Wiley. He's not their leader in rebounds, though (he averages 6 per game). That honor goes to 6'7, 210 lbs guard Kenrich Williams who is grabbing almost 10 boards per contest.

Auburn's top four scorers are all freshman. Austin Wiley has now moved ahead of TJ Dunans for the fourth spot with 8.7 points per game. Even with the bum ankle and slow offensive performances in his last two outings, Danjel Purifoy's average is still 12.4. Mustapha Heron is, of course, still leading the team.

Auburn needs a win in this game in a big way. They need the confidence boost of knocking off yet another Big XII team and this time on their home court. They need to bounce back from that embarrassing loss to South Carolina. They need to build some momentum before hosting a hot Tennessee team that just defeated Kentucky and then traveling to Alabama.

It's a very tough game, but it should be a winnable one if the Tigers play the way they did in the final minutes of the Alabama game and not as they did against the Gamecocks.
