Sugar Bowl: Auburn’s Secret Weapon for Oklahoma
Here we take a look at who could be a secret weapon for Auburn football as they take on Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl Monday night in New Orleans. There is no denying that the Auburn offense could use a little help. They have not looked like the same offense in the past three SEC […]

Top 5 Auburn Sports Plays of 2016
The 2016 athletic year for Auburn has been all over the place. Football had a better than expected year, but still had some frustrating losses. Basketball didn’t have a good Spring to end the 2015-16 season, but has had a pretty good start for the 2016-17 season. Softball was awesome. Baseball was building. Soccer won the SEC. Equestrian won it all.
Despite the ups and downs, there have been some pretty spectacular plays in the year of 2016. Three of the five are from the same game, and if I had gone to ten, you would’ve seen more plays from the same games. Needless to say, the big plays came in spurts.
#5 – Daniel Carlson’s fake field goal (Arkansas State)
#4 – Kerryon Johnson’s run (Arkansas State)
#3 – TJ Dunans’s buzzer beater (Mercer)
#2 – Tiffany Howard robs homerun (Oklahoma – WCWS)
#1 – Kyle Davis’s one-handed catch (Arkansas State)
Feel free to tell me where I’m right and wrong in the comments section below. And I already know exactly what you’re going to say, but let’s think with our heads instead of our hearts.

The Top 10 @WarBlogle Tweets of 2016
Twitter is the lifeline of this ol’ blogle. It’s the reason most of you get here. I wish you’d just set WarBlogle.com as your home page and check it every morning, but maybe one day.
I used to rank my top 10 tweets of the year by number of retweets, but now that Twitter has turned favoriting into liking, it just makes more sense to rank based on likability than share-ability.
It was a good year on the tweet-o-sphere, and I hope that continues into 2017. As always, thanks for following. If you don’t get on that.

Top 10 WarBlogle.com Posts of 2016
Let’s be honest. 2016 sucked. And I’m not just talking about all the celebrity deaths. The views on this here webspace were some of the lowest of the last few years. Sure, 2010 and 2013 have skewed things, but there just wasn’t much to excite the masses, and some of that is my fault.
As I’ve always said, this site goes as the football team goes, and that 6-game streak was nice, but there weren’t Kick Sixes or tipped pass touchdowns to get you looking for anything and everything like the stuff you’d normally find here.
I also have to admit that posting was a little low over the year. Raising two growing boys will do that. But I did add new features like Stranger Things that you seemed to like, and I got ideas for 2017, man. Ideas that will fix the low putout and the low turnout. Just wait and see.
Either way, all things Blogle did keep growing in 2016, and hopefully that will continue in 2017. So without further adieu, these were the top 10 WarBlogle.com posts of 2016, and a few actually including my very own writing.
10. Bo Jackson Announces Charles Barkley’s Statue
Posted: 10/24/2016

During Auburn’s beatdown of Arkansas this past Saturday, former Auburn basketball legends were introduced on the field. Charles Barkley was one of them.
After his introduction, Bo Jackson showed up on the BOOMtron and joked at the fact that he had a statue on campus on Barkley didn’t. Then he announced that Charles would be getting his own statue. It was really cool.
9. Auburn Football Takes the Mannequin Challenge
Posted: 11/6/2016
Views: 3,429
I don’t know how it started. I don’t know who sings the song or what it has to do with mannequins. But I do know that there is currently something called the Mannequin Challenge, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Someone videos a group of people in poses like mannequins. I guess the challenge aspect is seeing if you can stay frozen without breaking.
The Auburn football team has beaten everybody else they’ve played in the last 6 weeks, so they’ve decided to beat this challenge as well. It looks like it was filmed after yesterday’s game or after tonight’s practice, and it includes the entire team, therefore making it the best so far.
8. Everything About Auburn-LSU 2016 Was Weird

Saturday was just weird, man. Auburn-LSU always is, but usually it’s just connected directly to the game. I mean, we’ve seen a huge fire outside the stadium before, but this is getting ridiculous. Let’s go through the day and what made it the weirdest Auburn football day I’ve probably ever experienced. We’ll start slow and work our way up.

Kenny Chesney and a few friends will be kicking off his Spread the Love Tour this Saturday night. You can get all the details and see the stage setup here.
Even though it’s just Wednesday, he’s already in town. He’s just in that alternate universe where the University of Auburn thrives. You’ve heard many recruits commit to that school, so why not Kenny?
I mean, technically, it is the university in Auburn, so it’s the University of Auburn. Right?
We’re ready to kick off the #spreadthelovetour here at @AuburnU. Can’t wait for your energy, @NoShoesNation.http://bit.ly/2ipdNPB

6. Auburn Baseball Breaking Out Alternate Uniforms
Posted: 4/13/16
Views: 3,984
I am typically not a huge traditionalist when it comes to uniforms. I don’t want a major permanent change ever, but a small tweak is fine. And when talking about baseball, I don’t really care at all as long as they aren’t ugly.
Well, the rumors were true. Auburn will be wearing alternate uniforms this weekend against Tennessee. Frankly, and I know it’s out of character for my homerific self, but they are ugly and don’t make sense.
5. Auburn’s 2016 Football (and clothing) Schedule
Posted: 8/4/16
Views: 4,209
You may have noticed that what I call “pocket schedules” have been popping up around Auburn the last week or so. They are the true sign that football is getting real. It’s close.
Well, I picked one up at the Great Clips over the weekend and noticed that a few things have changed with Auburn’s clothing schedule. You see, for people that look for
dumbless important things to blogle about, these schedules have been good for content. They usually tell us when the “All Auburn, All Orange” and “True Blue” games will be happening. This year, that has changed.
4. Clemson Review: It Was the First Game
Posted: 9/5/16
Views: 4,359
The 2nd-ranked Clemson Tigers came into Jordan-Hare Stadium last Saturday night as a 7-10 point favorite to beat the Auburn Tigers, but if you talked to most fans of any SEC team, Auburn probably didn’t have much of a shot.
Over the course of the week, a few people softened on the idea that it would be a blowout, but it was obviously due to them reading my preview and realizing that blowouts are rare under the lights in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Even still, nobody, even the strongest of homers, thought an Auburn win would be very possible.
3. Watch the Silver Wings Parachute Team Land in Jordan-Hare Stadium
Posted: 9/4/16
Views: 4,813
Prior to the Auburn-Clemson, four members of the Silver Wings Parachute Team jumped from a perfectly good airplane and navigated their way through the friendly skies above Jordan-Hare Stadium. Some shot sparks from somewhere on their body. All of them landed within yards of the AU logo on the 50-yard-line. It was awesome.
What’s even more awesome is that one of them wore a GoPro through the whole thing.
2. 2016 National Signing Day Running Post
Posted: 2/2/16
Views: 5,070
For the seventh – SEVENTH – consecutive year, the ‘Blogle will be your no-frills stop for all things Auburn on National Signing Day. In the age of social media, every signing is viral within seconds. No matter when or where a guy makes his decision, every college football writer within 100 miles posts the same tweet, which does nothing but make your Twitter feed unbearable. It’s their job, but on a day like today, ain’t nobody got time for that.
1. Kenny Chesney Stage Setup in Jordan-Hare
Posted: 4/8/16
Views: 6,583
On Saturday night, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt, and Old Dominion will take the stage in Jordan-Hare Stadium as part of Music and Miracles and Chesney’s Spread the Love Tour. Despite what some outlets are putting out there, it is most certainly not the first concert in Jordan-Hare Stadium. I was at The Beach Boys/Tonic/Pat McGee concert in 2001. However, it is definitely the largest non-football event that will have ever happened on those hallowed grounds.
So that’s it for 2016. Good riddance. Thanks for everyone that stopped by. 2017 will be much better.

From the Other Sideline – Oklahoma
Allen Kenney is the founder of BlatantHomerism.com, a site I am extremely sad I didn’t register years ago. You know, because I’m a homer. He’s also the host of the Blatant Homerism podcast on Sooner Sports Radio. You can find him on Twitter at @BlatantHomerism. 1. What’s the common Oklahoma fan’s thoughts on Auburn football in general and then specifically for 2016?
Oklahoma fans respect Auburn to the same degree they respect any other coattail-riding SEC program. As for Auburn’s 2016 team, I doubt they know much about the Tigers beyond being “the team that got Les Miles fired.”
2. Name your two favorite Auburn Tigers of all time and why?
The first is easy: Cam Newton. He was the most dynamic player of the last decade in the college football. Probably goes for my lifetime, to be honest.
My No. 2 is Gene Chizik. Homey could really fill out a leather jacket.
3. What’s the vibe like in Norman after another Big 12 Title but not being included in the CFB Playoffs?
Frankly, I don’t think I’ve talked to one OU fan who thought the Sooners had a legitimate case for inclusion in the College Football Playoff. Most seem to agree that this squad lived up to expectations this year. You could find fault with Bob Stoops and his staff in how OU lost games to Houston and Ohio State, but not with the overall results.
4. I’ve always felt like Bob Stoops and Mark Richt were basically the same. They win a lot, but don’t have a ton to show for it on a national scale. Will Stoops ever be on a hot seat?
Bwah. Richt is a nice guy, but he’s not even in the same stratosphere as Stoops as a coach.
It would take a significant collapse spanning a couple seasons for Stoops to feel any real heat, and I imagine he’ll step down before it ever reaches that point.
5. What are your thoughts on the Joe Mixon situation? Should be still be allowed to play?
As a matter of principal, OU electing to allow Mixon to stay in school and work his way back to the team was a justifiable decision to me. That doesn’t do much to cure the “yeah, but…” feeling I have every time I see him do something great on the field, though.
In terms of allowing him to play, it seems to me that it would be incredibly disingenuous of OU to, in effect, punish him twice for the offense.
6. Name two Sooners besides Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook that Auburn fans should look out for and why?
For the sake of keeping it interesting, I’ll take Mixon and Samaje Perine out of the discussion as well.
On offense, keep an eye on fullback Dmitri Flowers. He makes his biggest contributions as a blocker, but offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley seems to call his number once or twice a game in key spots – inside the red zone, third down, etc. He’s as sure-handed a receiver as the Sooners have.
Defensively, outside linebacker Caleb Kelly is one to watch. He’s a five-star freshman who came on strong at the end of the year. His size and agility on the perimeter make him effective against the run and in coverage. Given Auburn’s style of play, it wouldn’t surprise me if Kelly turns out to be OU’s most productive defender on Monday night.
7. Which two Auburn Tigers worry you the most and why?
Defensive tackle Montravius Adams will give the Sooners’ interior offensive linemen all they can handle. I worry as much about his ability to jam up Baker Mayfield’s passing lanes as his strength as a run stopper.
On the other side of the ball, OU’s defense isn’t really built to stop a running back with Kamryn Pettway’s size. Combine that with an effective read game, and I think Auburn will have some success moving the ball on the ground.
8. What’s the most intriguing matchup and what will decide the game?
I really want to see how the Tigers defend OU’s quick passing game. Getting the ball out fast is paramount to counteract Auburn’s defensive line. Some of the spread-ish offenses that Auburn faced this season seemed to find holes in the D using quick-hitting routes.
That means guys like tight end Mark Andrews could get a lot of work. If OU’s secondary receivers (i.e., not Dede Westbrook) come up small, the Sooners are in trouble.
9. What’s your analysis and score prediction for the game?
I actually have Auburn, 38-28. I hope I’m wrong, but this is a bad matchup for OU. The Tigers seemed to be hitting their stride right before Sean White got hurt. Assuming he’s ready to roll, I think Auburn’s offense against OU’s defense will tilt this one.
10. Lastly, who should be the 2004 National Champion?
USC. The best thing that ever happened to that Auburn team was not getting to play the Trojans.

2016-2017 Bowl Predictions – Week 3
Well, after a bad 1st half of this week, the 2nd half got me back in the positive. That’s worth something, right?
Bowls: 17-16 (51.5%)
Regular Season: 94-45 (67.6%)
Overall: 111-61 (64.5%)
The final week of bowl season is all about the big boys, and besides the National Championship Game, Auburn plays in the last bowl game.
12/31
Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl (10 a.m. ABC)
LSU vs. Louisville – Boy, the Cardinals really dropped off, didn’t they. Nothing against the Citrus Bowl, but they were on the fast track for the playoffs and just fell apart at the end. LSU switched coaches and were mediocre most of the year, with some really weird losses. I’m gonna say SEC wins. I mean, SEC Kentucky beat Louisville, so yeah…
LSU 34, Louisville 30
Taxslayer Bowl (10 a.m. ESPN)
Georgia Tech vs. Kentucky – What used to be called the Gator Bowl can’t really love this matchup. Sure, it was cute that Kentucky had a nice year, but a bowl doesn’t want a team like the Wildcats, when 90% of their fanbase is squarely in basketball season. Georgia Tech is fine, though, and will win because of the triple option alone.
Georgia Tech 28, Kentucky 21
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (2 p.m. ESPN)
Washington vs. Alabama – I have this slight feeling that Washington is going to surprise Alabama, and then I remember the Huskies losing to the team that Alabama beat by 500. It will be boring. It will be a love fest. But hey, the SEC will get a bowl win. That’s all that matters……… right?
Alabama 41, Washington 21
Playstation Fiesta Bowl (6 p.m. ESPN)
Ohio State vs. Clemson – What if they both lost? I mean, I guess I want whatever team win this game to win the National Championship, which hurts REALLY bad, but I can’t dislike two non-Alabama teams more. They are almost the exact same team, with similar resumes and similar pasts. Yes, Ohio State is more prestigious, but both are usually overhyped because they beat up on mediocre conferences. Clemson has closer wins. Ohio State struggled with Michigan, who has proven with losses to Iowa and Florida State that they aren’t THAT good.
I think Clemson will win. I just do. That’s all.
Clemson 31, Ohio State 27
1/2
Outback Bowl (11 a.m. ABC)
Florida vs. Iowa – If this isn’t the most Outback Bowl matchup of all time I don’t know what is. I mean, when Auburn isn’t playing Wisconsin in it, it’s ALWAYS Iowa vs. Florida or Tennessee, isn’t it? Seriously, I think it is.
Neither team is as good as their name suggests, and it will be a snoozer.
Florida 17, Iowa 10
Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic (11 a.m. ESPN)
Western Michigan vs. Wisconsin – I know it’s fun to let Western Michigan play in a big game, but Wisconsin is going to drill them. Now watch it turn into Boise/Oklahoma from a years back.
Wisconsin 34, Western Michigan 10
Rose Bowl (4 p.m. ESPN)
USC vs. Penn State – I know the Rose Bowl is a big deal, but is it a huge deal when one team just has to drive across town? For Penn State it’s huge, but does that matter? USC got really good later in the year, and the Nittany Lions were solid most of the year, but I’m going to have to say the team that drove a bus to the game will win.
USC 21, Penn State 13
Sugar Bowl (7:30 p.m. ESPN)
Auburn vs. Oklahoma – Check back later for my prediction in the game preview, but SPOILER ALERT: what won returns.
1/9
National Championship Game (7 p.m. ESPN)
TBD vs. TBD

Sugar Bowl: The SEC Needs Auburn to Beat Oklahoma

2017 Three-Star Quarterback Malik Willis Commits to Auburn
The Tigers have added another signal caller to the class for commitment #20.
Auburn has been through a few high school quarterbacks in this class. First, it was Lowell Narcisse. He decommitted and almost committed again, but ultimately chose LSU. Then it was Tray Bishop, who many people project as a DB at the next level more than a QB, anyway. He has decommitted from Auburn, though the Tigers are still pursuing him.
The Tigers landed a QB in JUCO transfer Jarrett Stidham, but always wanted another high school QB. That high school QB is now a part of the class with the commitment of 3* Malik Willis of Roswell HS in Atlanta, GA.
Rivals was first with the story, but shortly after their publishing, Gus Malzahn gave the usual Twitter confirmation.
Boom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! War Eagle!
— Coach Gus Malzahn (@CoachGusMalzahn) December 30, 2016
Willis is 6'2, 188 lbs, so he probably needs to add a little bit of weight to take the rigors of a SEC schedule, but he's got a good frame. He picked the Tigers after decommiting from Virginia Tech, recently. He also had offers from Air Force, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and others. It's obvious from his offer list that he has some running ability since a lot of running teams have offered him.
This isn't one the Tigers are going to have to try to hold on through February's signing day. He's an early enrollee, so he'll be coming in this Spring. That's huge for him to get started learning the offense and trying to compete for a spot in the future.
Highlights
There are a lot of them. 17 minutes worth, actually. There is a lot to like from his running ability. I'm not sure about his throwing motion, but he's got some arm strength. There's one throw about halfway through where he slings it a good 50+ yards. He'll need some work, but he could prove to be an electric player at the position. If he can beat out the competition, that is. Gobbler Country wasn't too high on his QB prospects when he committed to Virginia Tech back in January. That's before he exploded during his senior season, though.
The Class
Willis' commitment bumps the Tigers up one spot in the national and conference rankings to 8th and 4th. They leap Texas A&M for that spot. He's the 20th commitment in a class that has room for about 25. You can figure on the Tigers taking 6 more, though, because long snapper Bill Taylor is still listed as a commit even though he isn't likely to end up as a part of the official signing class; he'll go the Blue Shirt route.
There are still a few targets on the defensive side of the ball and Auburn may still offer (and then probably land) Willis' teammate 3* OT Jordan Tucker on the offensive side of the ball.

News and notes from the Auburn corners of the Internet
I didn't get back home from the Alamo Bowl last night until after midnight and since Army has the day off, I slept in. I got the bowl post up before the games started and wanted to give that some room to breathe before posting the links. Better late than never!
First, though, le's mention that Alamo Bowl. Sadly, it wasn't a competitive game. I did get to fulfill one of those "College Football Bucket List" activities, though. I didn't even think about it leading up to the game until my wife asked why the group of guys wearing jeans and cowboy hats were all stretching and warming up. That's when it hit me and I looked down into the corner and saw the trailer and corral. They brought him out and into the corral and then let him loose just before the game.

Seeing them run him up into that trailer was awesome. I'm still mad at the lady who walked right in front of me at the time, too.
BASKETBALL
Auburn played basketball last night. It was a whole lot of fun until it wasn't. Dang it.
The highlight of the night was TJ Dunans finding his way into Georgia's team huddle at one point.
SOCCER
Five Tigers were recognized in post-season accolades by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
FOOTBALL
We've got your bowl schedule through New Year's Eve if you need to know what game are on how/when to watch them!
The media were actually allowed to view part of practice, yesterday. They took some pictures and video that shows clear evidence Sean White is, in fact, throwing the football. How much velocity he's throwing with is still in question.
Oklahoma knows Auburn's defense is going to bring the physicality. They're hoping they can match that on offense. They're going to face a determined Auburn D led by players like Deshaun Davis who is ready to show the Tigers earned the trip to New Orleans, they didn't back into it.
#Legatron announced he's coming back for his final year of eligibility (I guess he needs to find a PhD program since I think he already is finishing his Master's) and will enjoy a year with his brother redshirting. Tray Matthews is still weighing his options but leans towards returning. I'd say he needs to come back, personally.
Don't want to listen to Brent and Jesse during the Sugar Bowl? There's going to be an "analytical broadcast" of the game on SEC Network.

Bowl Games: Big Day for SEC Football After Slow Start
SEC football has not looked great in bowl games in the early going, but as the top tier teams start to take the field we should see some wins for the conference. Georgia and Tennessee will both play their bowl games today for the SEC conference, which is not 1-4 this bowl season. South Carolina […]

College Football December 30-31 2017 Bowl Schedule, TV Channels, Streaming Options
Your bowl info for Friday and Saturday!
Do you need more bowls? Because today and tomorrow, there are more bowls! That includes the College Football Playoff, of course.
Here’s today and tomorrow’s schedule.
AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Georgia vs TCU. The SEC is struggling in bowl games. It needs a pick-me-up. Hopefully, the conference doesn’t get that in this one. Go Frogs.
Hyundai Sun Bowl. (18) Stanford vs North Carolina. Gene Chizik’s defense! They’re playing Christian Mc... oh, yeah, he’s not playing in this one. I guess watch this one because the weather can be nuts and they play the game inside a mountain.
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. Nebraska vs (21) Tennessee. You can pull for the SEC in this one. If you want to.
NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl. South Alabama vs Air Force. The Jaguars beat Mississippi State, struggled in their own conference, and then still made a bowl game. See if the home state team can win it, now.
Capital One Orange Bowl. (6) Michigan vs (11) Florida State. The first of the New Years Six games! A Top 15 Match-up! Hopefully it goes better than last night’s Top 15 game. Watch for Harbaugh’s antics.
Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. (20) LSU vs (13) Louisville. See how DACOACHO’s team does in his first game as the official head coach. Against Lamar Jackson.
TaxSlayer Bowl. Georgia Tech vs Kentucky. Another SEC game! Kentucky is in a bowl game. They’ve had a month to prepare for Paul Johnson’s triple option. Watch it to see the type of offense Auburn will probably face in Game 1 of next season.
Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. (1) Alabama vs (4) Washington. I’m not going to watch it, personally. I’ll take my wife out for a hike or something.
PlayStation Fiesta Bowl. (2) Clemson vs (3) Ohio State. I might watch this one. Or I might play Harry Potter LEGO on PlayStation.

The media was permitted a viewing window and access to some of the Tigers’ players, today.
Auburn was on the practice field this morning in New Orleans. For the first time since before the season began, the media were allowed in to watch. Here are a few pictures, videos, tweets, etc from the session. It includes a nice little bit from the end from Daniel Carlson.
It’s nice to see video evidence that Sean White is indeed in uniform and practicing. Not that I doubted there was a deception campaign to that level going on, but still it’s hard to know exactly what they’re doing in relation to injuries given the previous history.
