Auburn vs Arkansas Recap: Tigers Destroy The Razorbacks 56-3

Auburn went scorched earth, tonight. I think Stanton Truitt just scored again.

During the pre-game prayer circle that Auburn conducts immediately following Tiger Walk, apparently there was some sort of incident, tonight. Arkansas quickly learned that this was a bad idea.

The Auburn Tigers came to play in a way that we haven't seen in quite some time. After a quick stop on defense, it only took one offensive play for the Tigers to get on the board thanks to a 78 yard Eli Stove touchdown run. Things only got worse for the Hawgs from there.

Auburn added touchdown runs of 9 yards by Kamryn Pettway and 20 yards by converted wide-receiver Stanton Truitt to take a 21-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. A 45 yard touchdown pass from Sean White to Truitt increased the lead to 28-0. Arkansas picked up a field goal with time running out in the 1st half to avoid the shutout. Those would be the only points the Hawgs would score.

In the second half, Auburn would add four more touchdowns, starting with a Sean White keep on 4th and goal, Pettway getting a 23 yard run, Truitt getting his third score of the day on a 31 yard run, and then Kam Martin busting free on the edge for a 51 yard run to cap off the scoring.

It could have been worse, as Auburn clearly pulled off the gas pedal before the end of the 3rd quarter. The Tigers finished the game with 542 yards rushing. That's an Auburn record against an SEC opponent and an Arkansas record for yards given up on the ground. Pettway led the way with 197 yards on 27 carries. While reportedly healthy, Kerryon Johnson never saw the field and honestly never needed to. Pettway, Stove, Martin, Truitt, and even Sean White all picked up big carries on the ground.

The Auburn passing game as almost non-existent, but it wasn't needed. Sean White finished 6/11 for 77 yards and one touchdown.

While the rushing attack of Auburn was one of the big stories, the other big story was the performance of the Tiger defense. They held the Razorbacks to an astonishing 25 yards rushing. It was a remarkable performance by a defensive front that has shown they're one of the best in the nation over the last few games. They ended the game with a few take-aways, too.

Auburn is now 5-2 on the season and has a lot of momentum going into the Ole Miss game next weekend. It will be a big game for the Tigers, who are still in the SEC West race with Texas A&M's loss to Alabama, today.

Enjoy this one, Auburn fans. Two weeks after one of the most complete SEC victories I've seen Auburn have, the Tigers came back and one-upped it with an even more impressive win. The Tigers are playing like champions, and it's a lot of fun to watch.

War Eagle!
