UL-Monroe Preview: Work it Out
The Northeast Louisiana/Louisiana-Monroe/LA-Monroe/UL-Monroe/ULM Indians Warhawks are currently 1-2 and coming off a bye week. They beat Southern modestly, were blasted by Oklahoma, and lost a close one to Georgia Southern. That’s about all I know.
For a year or two there, the Warhawks were a scary little team. Of course we all remember that beautiful day when they beat Saban’s first Alabama team. We remember 2012 when they beat Arkansas in overtime the week before losing to Auburn in overtime. But other than that, the haven’t put a scare into many other teams.
Auburn is 9-0 against the Warhawks and I don’t see that 2nd number changing on Saturday. I’m sorry, Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame, I just don’t.
Auburn has already dispatched one SunBelt team this season, a Sunbelt team that appears to be pretty bad (Arkansas State is now 0-4), and if things go as they should, the Tigers should be able to put another notch in their (sun) belt.
Despite the lack of touchdowns last week, the Auburn offense moved the ball against a really good defense. The redzone was the only part of the game that wasn’t worthy. It’s these types of games where those things get fixed.
Malzahn teased that we may see something a little different inside the redzone this week. Does that mean I-formation? I sure hope so. It’s what I said needs to happen when Tony Franklin was here and any other year without Cam Newton in the back field.
Whatever the difference is, Auburn should be able to work out the kinks this week, somewhat like they did with Arkansas State. Following the loss to Clemson, where five different people took snaps, the Tigers used the Red Wolves to figure out how to run the offense with one quarterback. Now that Auburn has that figured out and has done somewhat so against really good teams, it’s time to use a lesser team to figure out the rest.
The 1st-string Auburn defense should not surrender a single touchdown. The Auburn offense should not punt one time. Sean White should throw it at least 30 times, and John Franklin should play the entire 4th quarter.
After the September that Auburn had to play, this is the most welcome UL-Monroe has ever been to me. It’s a good week for people to come home (it’s Homecoming), take it easy, and watch Auburn go above .500.
Auburn 54, UL-Monroe 6

The AUperations Order, FRAGORD 5: Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
Our military operations order style preview series continues with the team whose mascot is a WWII fighter plane, and that's pretty cool.
AUperations Order: 2016 Football Season.
FRAGORD 5, Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks
Task Organization: The Auburn Tigers will be organized using this week's depth chart.
1) SITUATION
a) Enemy -
Intelligence reports indicate that the Auburn Tigers' opponent for Week 5 is a Sun Belt team led by a mobile "dual-threat" QB. They have struggled so far this season but do have a history of SEC upsets against teams from the state of Alabama. The enemy will attempt to shut down Auburn's offensive attack by any means necessary; however, they have the 3rd worst rushing defense in the nation, so their ability to slow Auburn up on the ground should be minimal. They do have the 31st ranked pass defense in the nation, but they haven't faced many teams that throw the ball.
b) Friendly -
(1) Higher Unit Mission Two Levels Up: No Change
(2) Higher Unit Mission One Level Up: No Change
c) Civil Considerations:
The local populace will be very supportive of the Auburn Tigers. This will be the first afternoon game for Auburn and is Homecoming, so the crowd may not be as boisterous facing a G5 opponent.
d) Attachments & Detachments:
Attachments: Auburn University Marching Band, Auburn Cheerleaders, Aubie the Tiger, Nova and/or Spirit
Detachments: None
2) MISSION
The Auburn Tigers Football Team take on the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, AL at 1430 hours local time, in order to advance the program's goal of reaching the College Football Post Season.
3) EXECUTION
a) Concept of the Operation.
The football team will play four quarters of fast, physical football against all opponents with each portion of the team performing special duties assigned to them.
Scheme of Maneuver.
The operation will consist of multiple phases. Phase 1- the planning and preparation phase - begins at the end of the LSU game and ends with the team departing for the Remain Over Night (RON) site in Montgomery. Phase 2 - the travel phase - begins upon arrival at the RON site and ends with Tiger Walk. Phase 3 - the execution phase - begins upon arrival at the stadium and consists of pre-game warm-ups and game activity. It will end upon completion of the contest. Phase 4 - the recovery phase - begins with post-game locker-room activities and ends upon the team's arrival back at the athletic facility in Auburn.
Offense, the main effort, will conduct fast-paced, minimal communication attacks against the enemy utilizing multiple air and land-based weapons systems. Sean White will lead the unit on the field with quick, accurate passes, good reads of the defense on read-option plays, and effective driving of a fast-paced tempo. With Rhett Lashlee taking over play calling duties, expect to see some things different, but the red zone offense may not show too many new wrinkles against the Warhawks. Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson should get the ball a lot in the running game early, but Pettway will likely not play much with the bruised muscle he suffered against LSU. While varied play calling would be nice, we do not expect to see anything too different from the last few weeks against a Sun Belt opponent. Fast, decisive play with minimal substitutions should be the goal. Through speed of maneuver, simplicity in planning, and security of ball-control, the offense will attack the defense and cross the opponent's goal line as quickly and as often as possible.
Defense, a supporting effort, will employ fast/physical assaults on the opponent's offense. Louisiana-Monroe is led by a mobile QB in Garrett Smith. They have a Top-50 passing offense, and Smith is also their leading rusher. He does not have very much in the way of total rushing yards, though, and while he is considered mobile, he should not be put in the same discussion as Deshaun Watson and Trevor Knight. The defensive front for Auburn will need to establish dominance on the line early and pressure the QB into making bad decisions in the passing game while also sealing the edges to prevent him getting loose on runs. Through surprise, mass, and economy of force, the defense will prevent the opposing offense from crossing the Auburn goal line through expending of their downs or through creating turnovers.
Special Teams, a supporting effort, will conduct all kicking and return duties. #Legatron will hopefully not be needed for short field goals, and is available for trick plays. Through maneuver, simplicity, mass, and economy of force, special teams will attempt to score points when supporting the offensive efforts and prevent opponents from scoring points while supporting defensive efforts.
Fans, a supporting effort, will conduct themselves in a manner befitting proper sportsmanship standards while still loudly cheering on the Auburn Tigers football team and disrupting the opponents' game plan, rhythms, snap counts, etc.
b) Task to Subordinate Units
(1) Offense. Task: No Change. Purpose: No Change.
(2) Defense. Task: No Change. Purpose: No Change.
(3) Special Teams. Task: No Change. Purpose: No Change.
c) Coordinating Instructions
(1) Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIR): Opposing team signals, tendencies, etc. Only to be obtained through ethical, legal means.
(2) Timeline
Times will be adjusted based on subsequent operations.

Somehow, Someway
I took great joy this past week telling anyone that would listen, that for Auburn, the “second” time is always a charm. After a slow-building, crock-pot type affair, Auburn withstood LSU and Leonard Fournette last weekend to upset the 18th ranked Bajou Bengals under the lights in Jordan-Hare. It was far from pretty and the offense is still most definitely a work in progress, but you don’t have to look far to find signs of life on this Auburn football team. And that is very good news for this coaching staff.
Gus Malzahn hasn’t provided any extraordinary initiative for his defense to play at a high level. Instead, they have been forced to play with their backs against a wall for much of the season. Through it all thus far, the Auburn defense has shined. Auburn has been in every contest this season and painfully close to having an unblemished record if only the offense could have awarded their stellar play with any sort of spark resulting in a red zone touchdown.
The good news is that Auburn’s offensive “scheme” is seemingly finding its comfort zone – whatever that is. Despite not one trip to the endzone last week it did look a lot more polished than it had against Clemson and Texas A&M respectively. I can’t help but feel like they were one explosive play away (much like Kerryon Johnson’s ridiculous touchdown run against Arkansas State) from really settling down and finally gaining the confidence they need to take the next step.
I’m also pleased with the absence of Jeremy Johnson from the quarterback rotation and the overall lack of quarterback uncertainty that plagued the offense in game 1. Not to bash Jeremy Johnson, but it’s been painfully obvious for quite a while now that the offense simply does not perform with him at the helm.
The wildcat “package” is the most glaring weakness I can see going forward. From what I’ve seen in Auburn games of late, I think it’s safe to say that it’s a rhythm killing, momentum ruining black hole for the offense. I know that Gus totally dropping this formation from his playbook is essentially blasphemy but this has to be scrapped or scaled back to a large degree.
Having grown up watching Auburn teams that could have lined up and pushed an opposing line of Sherman tanks back to gain a yard on the ground, it is nothing but embarrassing watching a Tigers offense led by a true offensive genius line up 4 times against any opposing team on their goal line and fail to score.
But for all the gripes and complaints that are now most in vogue on message boards and at backyard cookouts across the South for Auburn fans, it is most important to be appreciative of a solid SEC win against a premier team in this league. This coaching staff now has that elusive, momentum-swinging victory under their belts for 2016. What they do with that momentum going forward will ultimately determine their fates.

College Football 2016 Week 5 TV Schedule Times, TV, Streaming, And More
It's Week 5! There are three (THREE!!!) Top 10 matchups this weekend. The Top 25 will surely see some movement after this one.
Week 5 of the College Football Season sees some excellent matchups, and they start Friday night! There are two games on tonight, and sure one of them is (6) Houston aiming for revenge against UConn for last year's loss, but they aren't very compelling.
The real fun begins Friday night with the first Top 10 matchup of the weekend. (7) Stanford will take on (10) Washington. That should be a fun game to watch and should give the majority of the country their first real chance to check out the 2016 Huskies. If you can stay up that late, that is.
Now let's get to Saturday.
EARLY GAMES
Plenty of Top 25 teams are in action early on in the day, but none of them are in games that really grab the eye.
What You'll Be Watching
(22) Texas at Oklahoma State or (23) Florida at Vanderbilt.
What You Should Be Watching
(14) Miami at Georgia Tech. Mark Richt has the Hurricanes playing well, and he's rarely lost to Georgia Tech in his history as a head coach. If Miami wins this one and Georgia loses to Tech later in the year, you'll hear some rumblings among the Bulldog fans.
MID-AFTERNOON
What You'll Be Watching
Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn. If you can find it on the SEC Alternate channel and aren't already there for Homecoming, anyway.
What You Should Be Watching
(11) Tennessee at (25) Georgia. This game could decide who wins the SEC East. I'm guessing Tennessee is able to pull this one out.
OR
(8) Wisconsin vs (4) Michigan. A Top 10 game! Wisconsin has been a weird team, so far. They beat LSU, struggled to hold off Georgia State, and walloped Michigan State. Can they go 2 for the Lower Peninsula?
EARLY EVENING
What You'll Be Watching
(3) Louisville vs (5) Clemson. Whew boy, this one should be fun.
What You Should Be Watching
Memphis vs (16) Ole Miss. Can Memphis make it 2 in a row against the Rebels? Probably not.
#PAC12AfterDark
Arizona State at USC, Oregon at Washington State, or Arizona at UCLA are the PAC12 specials this week.

Week 5 Predictions: Nationally? Yeah. SEC? Meh.
I didn’t feel like things went bad last week, but in terms of my predictions… not too good. I need to turn that around now, and just like Auburn, this is the week to get every little bit right.
Last week: 6-4 (60.0%)
This week: 0-0 (0.0%)
Overall: 31-18 (63.3%)
Nationally, there are quite a few good games, but inside the SEC, the big games are only big because of the names.
10/1
Alcorn State at Arkansas – It’s week 5 and Bert is already on cupcake number three, which is strange because it usually only takes him about 5 minutes to get three deep on those red velvet cups of cake.
Arkansas 35, Alcorn State 7
Florida at Vanderbilt – In terms of Vandy, the Commodores aren’t playing too badly. The Gators are probably reeling after losing a huge lead and a huge streak against Tennessee last week. I think Florida wins, but it will take more work than expected.
Florida 24, Vanderbilt 14
Tennessee at Georgia – Just when I think it can’t get any worse, it does. Let’s run through Top 10 Tennessee’s resume: OT win over Appalachian State, pulled away from a bad Virginia Tech late, struggled against Ohio, and beat Florida’s 2nd-string QB. Now they get to go to Athens where a team just lost by 20+ and should’ve lost to Nicholls the week before. But no, let’s ignore all of that because you’ve heard the name Tennessee and Georgia before and that sounds like a big deal.
Tennessee 31, Georgia 23
Texas A&M at South Carolina – The Aggies look like they always do. They start of strong, but usually end up losing a few. I don’t think that starts this week as the Gamecocks just lost to Kentucky. Yeesh.
Texas A&M 45, South Carolina 10
Kentucky at Alabama – The Crimson Tide may be without a star linebacker following an arrest this week. It could bode well for the Wildc…. who am I kidding? That guy practices in the heat while we’re all in the air conditioning. Alabama beats the basketball boys big.
Alabama 38, Kentucky 13
Memphis at Ole Miss – Memphis probably treats this game like the Super Bowl. Too bad their not that super. Ole Miss has their offense rolling, and despite their struggling defense, they shouldn’t struggle with these Tigers. But wait, Memphis beat Ole Miss last year…NOPE.
Ole Miss 41, Memphis 14
Missouri at LSU – Well this is a weird one. As much as I don’t like Missouri, they have been scoring lots of points (against really bad teams), and LSU can’t score points and now have an interim coach. I can see the LSU fans packing it in, but I can also see many of them really glad that Les is gone and see this as the start of a new season. I really don’t know where this one is going. Fournette’s probably out so I’m going to pick an upset I don’t want to see.
Missouri 28, LSU 21
UL-Monroe at Auburn – Check back tomorrow for my prediction in the game preview, but SPOILER ALERT: offensive betterment.
Other Games of Note
Wisconsin at Michigan – Remember, Wisconsin is ranked in the top 10 because they beat LSU. Michigan is ranked in the top 5 because their coach stays in the news.
Michigan 24, Wisconsin 17
Louisville at Clemson – This is a big game. The trends say Louisville wins big. But I just don’t see it happening. Clemson’s D is probably the best the Cardinals have played all season. It may not be enough, but I’m picking what I want to happen in this one.
Clemson 41, Louisville 38
Now that you know who will win, head on over to the 2016 War Blogle Pick ’em and get your picks in. There will be weekly prizes and and overall winner at the end of the season. It’s easy. Do it.

Auburn Softball Releases Full 2017 Schedule
The back-to-back SEC Champion Auburn softball team led by Clint Myers released its 2017 schedule yesterday. You can see it in its entirety by clicking here.
Back in June, Track ‘Em Tigers brought you a season preview in the Looking Ahead to the 2017 Season.
The 2017 season could not get off to a better or more competitive start. Auburn will join Washington, Nebraska and BYU in trying to take down defending National Champion Oklahoma in the Triple Crown Tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The tournament begins February 9th and finishes on the 11th with the Tigers playing Washington and Oklahoma on the 9th, Nebraska on the 10th and finishing with BYU on the 11th. That is easily the hardest slate of the five teams.
Auburn famously fell just short of winning its first national championship against Oklahoma in its first appearance in the Women’s College World Series finals. Despite miraculous plays from Victoria Draper and Whitney Jordan as well as a clutch walk-off home run from Emily Carosone early in the series, the Tigers’ inexperience in the big moment cost them big in game three. Taking on the Sooners in the tournament provides a terrific opportunity for the Tigers to start the season and build some serious confidence.
Nebraska and BYU are not major contenders, though both made it to regional play in 2016. However …
the Washington Huskies are a legitimate contender. The Huskies finished with a 39–15 record last season and fell to Auburn’s rival, Alabama, with scores of 1–2 and 2–5 in super-regional play.
No television schedule has been released yet, but expect these games to be shown at least on SEC Network+.
Auburn will host the Plainsman and Tiger Invitationals at home in consecutive weeks from February 17th to March 2nd. However, only James Madison should provide any challenge for Auburn.
The Tigers join other premier teams in the Wilson/DeMarini Classic on March 3rd. Headlining the competition are in-conference opponents LSU and Tennessee.
Auburn finishes preseason play by traveling to the University of South Florida for the USF Tournament on March 17th. The competition will be light.
The regular season begins in Gainesville against Florida on March 24th. Though Auburn knocked off UF in the SEC Tournament, the Gators have had Auburn’s number in regular season play. Auburn will look to win its first series against the regular-season champs. This is a premier matchup between potential top-five teams and will undoubtedly be televised.
Auburn opens home play at Jane B, Moore field against Ole Miss on April 7th.
The decisive series of the season with serious post-season implications comes May 5 through 7 in Tuscaloosa as the Tigers take on the Tide. The Tide is a team that has given Auburn fits. Aside from avoiding sweeps and postseason play, Auburn has been unable to get series wins against the Tide.
In terms of SEC play, Auburn also draws Ole Miss, Missouri, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Georgia. However, drawing both Florida and Alabama and playing both teams on the road will most likely define the season.
Clint Myers’ team has grown each year in his three-year tenure at Auburn. Prior to Myers coming on the scene, Auburn had not been close to the big wins as the Tigers struggled in the moment while, heavyweights Alabama and Florida largely thrived. Now Auburn has won back-to-back SEC championships and made it to two WCWS’s, including a finals appearance.
The SEC Tournament kicks off on May 10th in Knoxville where the Tigers look for a three-peat. Regional play begins eight days later, leading to super-regional play on the 26th. The Women’s College World Series begins June 1st in Oklahoma City.

2016 Auburn Football: Post "September of Doom" Report Card
The Tigers sit at 2-2 after the opening four games of the season. We're right where many thought we'd be; just not exactly how we thought we'd be there.
To start the 2016 football season, Auburn has lost two games to Top 10 football teams in games they competed in and had very real chances to win one of them and could have had chances to win the other, defeated one Sun Belt team handily, and narrowly beaten a team that was in the Top 25 when we played them.
In those games, we saw a near dominant defense limit some very powerful offenses with the exception of a few big plays. The offense struggled at times due to the QB play and at times due to play calling.
If I told you that was how the season would start back in August, I think most Auburn fans - looking through the lens of what we experienced in 2015 and questioning the QB situation and our young skill position players - would have said that's about what they expected. I may even venture so far as to say it's better than expected because I don't think anyone foresaw the defense holding Clemson and Texas A&M's offense to the level that they did.
Yet, with that, Auburn fans aren't happy.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they should be happy just because the season has started much the way we thought it would back in August. This is a team that should be sitting at 3-1, if not 4-0. I just find it funny that the record is what many thought would be the best-case scenario and yet there's still so much unrest.
I get the unrest. The reason this team isn't 3-1 or undefeated is because of the offense. I didn't think there was any way Gus Malzahn would have two bad years of offense in a row, and yet here we are with an offense struggling again because Malzahn couldn't get out of his own way for the first three games. He finally did just that - literally - in Game 4 when he relinquished play calling to Rhett Lashlee. The result was an offense that actually took advantage of its tendencies and issues for the first time in a while and moved the ball very well. Until they got inside the 20.
My thoughts at the beginning of the year were that we would lose to Clemson and one of the two SEC games. I thought LSU the most likely, as did most, probably. I thought we'd lose to Clemson in a shoot-out and to LSU in a brawl.
I thought the defense would be improved, but not to the level that it has been. I thought Special Teams would continue to be awesome on kickoffs and field goals and decent on punts. That was pretty much right.
I thought the offense would get back to playing fast and trying to call plays like they did against Kentucky and Arkansas last season and like Gus did at Tulsa. That was a bit off base, to say the least.
The grades below are just judging the units as a whole. I don't have the time at the moment to judge position groups or individual players.
The Grades
Offense - C+
I'm giving them the + only because there were signs of improvement against LSU outside of the red zone and because Gus got over his stubbornness, knew he was in a funk, and turned the play calling over to someone else. I'm giving them a C instead of a D just because they are at least running the football fairly well and Sean White has been accurate when allowed to get into a rhythm. The C also comes because I see potential for it improving over the next weeks and really hitting a stride by the Arkansas game IF the red zone woes are fixed. Ds are disheartening. Cs can make you at least feel like you're going to get better.
Defense - A-
This defense is on the cusp of being a Top 25 scoring defense. They're playing with much better fundamentals, tackling better, covering better, etc. It's been a while (2008) since we've seen an Auburn defense play like this one has. The most points a team has put up on them has been the 29 by Texas A&M, and one of those touchdowns was a late run when they were exhausted and the offense had just given the ball over due to a turnover-on-downs.
So why the - instead of a +? There are still some big plays being given up, and Arkansas State really should not have scored at all on this defense, much less twice. There are things to iron out, but damn if they aren't playing like an Auburn defense should.
Special Teams - A-
The - here is because the punting has just been ok. No team has really gotten a punt return of any type, so that's good. However, there have been some poor punts.
The rest of the special teams have been amazing. Daniel Carlson continues to be absolutely clutch. His kickoffs are flying out of the end zone and not being returned. His field goal kicking has been clutch. They even scored a touchdown on a perfect fake.
The Rest Of The Season
Auburn plays another Sun Belt team this weekend in Louisiana-Monroe. It should be a game that the Tigers win easily. After that comes Auburn's first road trip of the season to play a struggling Mississippi State in Starkville. Then, they get a week off before welcoming Arkansas to town on the 22nd of October.
If I told you that this was a team that would probably go 8-4 with an outside chance of 9-3 at the beginning of the year, would you have taken it? I know I would.
This is how - right now - I could see the rest of the year playing out.
Louisiana-Monroe - Easy victory, but some heartache as the team tries to get some of the red zone woes worked out and tries some new ideas and concepts. Some will work. Some won't. Some will work against the Warhawks, but may not work later against SEC teams.
Mississippi State - A tough road victory because it's always tough for Auburn to win in Starkville, for some reason. The red zone concepts Auburn tried against ULM will be refined against a SEC defense.
Arkansas - The Hawg Hex could come into play here. I see this one as a toss-up, but I think the Tigers' defense will be able to stop Arkansas much better than they did last year, and Sean White has better pass-catching receivers this year, plus the home crowd push Auburn to the win.
Ole Miss - Probably a loss, unfortunately. Ole Miss is a good football team with the best quarterback in the SEC right now. He's mobile and has a great arm and great receivers. If Auburn can pressure him, though, and make them one-dimensional by stopping their iffy rushing offense and Auburn's offense has been able to establish a real identity and fix the red zone issues, then a win is possible. I'm chalking it up as a loss for now.
Vanderbilt - Vandy's D has been strong for the past few seasons, but I think the Tigers' defense will absolutely stifle their offense. It may be another #Legatron special or it may be a blowout, but I think it's an Auburn win.
Georgia - Georgia looks very weak right now. Of course, we always get them when they've managed to figure things out and we have a history of letting young UGA QBs make us look stupid. Still, Gus and Rhett have managed to have success against Kirby's defenses before, and he doesn't have the Alabama defense in this one. I think Auburn finally wins one in Athens.
Alabama A&M - Blowout win.
Alabama - Probably a loss. Jeremy Pruitt has done well at stopping the Auburn offense, it will be in Tuscaloosa, and unless the offense finds a real identity and the line's blocking improves dramatically, it's hard to see the Tigers escaping T-town with a win.
That's 8-4, maybe 9-3, with victories over LSU and Georgia. Someone with good reason to be confident in their statement told me Gus needed 8-4 with a win over one of the Big 3 (LSU, Georgia, Alabama) to survive 2016. I've always thought he deserved to survive it, anyway, but the above scenario would definitely see him back on the Plains for 2017.
Lose in two weeks in Starkville to the Bulldogs and still have lots of issues on offense, though, and you could see that swinging very quickly back the other direction.
Conclusion
Too Long, Didn't Read: The Tigers are pretty much where we thought they'd be in 2016 given the roster on hand and how young and inexperienced so many of the important skill position players are plus the quarterback questions.
There is potential for them to get better if the play calling and some of the execution improves. There is potential for them to be really good by the end of the season if they can get everything together. There is also potential for lots of struggles. In short, 2016 is a toss-up. It was probably always going to be, and it's looking like that's playing out. We'll see if they continue to go up, stay somewhat stagnant, or collapse. I'm betting somewhere between the first two options, personally.

Dentist: Cam Newton has saved flossing
Ask any dentist about the flossing thing and they’ll bear their teeth and hate you. Yes, they saw the story. No, they don’t agree. Yes, they’re worried for the world.
Or they were until a couple of weeks ago. Because according to a website that bills itself as “the world’s most comprehensive resource for dental professionals,” the image of the Blessed Individual extracting the pulp of his halftime oranges during that Thursday night Panthers-Broncos game has single-handedly made flossing relevant again in our meme hungry minds.
PSA ON ORAL HEALTH: If Cam Newton finds time to floss his teeth, you have NO excuse http://bit.ly/2dfjfCM
— Jack McGuire (@BigDaddysCourt) September 9, 2016
“Newton flossing on the sidelines was big news for the dental world,” writes Iman Sadri, DDS.
“The reputation of flossing was damaged with one AP article, and restored with one viral image of an NFL MVP flossing on the sidelines. It’s interesting to note that Cam Newton is almost never seen wearing a protective mouth guard during NFL games. His “Hollywood smile” may not be protected mid-game, but his dental hygiene certainly will be.”

Auburn Opponent Preview: ULM Warhawks
from Scout.com > autigers.com http://foxs.pt/2d7766j
via IFTTT
From the Other Sideline – UL-Monroe
Dusty Thibodeaux (Twitter) is a 1997 graduate of Auburn High School who moved to Monroe, La. to attend then Northeast Louisiana University in hopes of continuing his basketball career. Although that didn’t pan out, he continued with his education, graduating from now ULM in 2002 and 2006. In addition to working as publisher for WarhawkReport.com, he works as a network engineer for a Fortune 500 company.
1. What are UL-Monroe fans’ first thoughts on Auburn football at this very moment?
No real thoughts, but definitely a little happier that the Tigers topped the LSU Tigers. This game is the final guarantee game of the season for ULM and there’s always a sigh of relief after these games are complete. Little talk has surfaced about the 2012 game which saw the Warhawks take Auburn to OT before falling, but more talk has surfaced about squaring off against former Arkansas St Head Coach Gus Malzahn.
2. After a close loss to Georgia Southern and a bye week, what’s he mood like in Monroe?
Fans are a little upset this week, knowing that the team was that close to pulling out the road win at Georgia Southern. The future is still looking bright though under first year Head Coach Matt Viator and with just one conference loss, the goal of competing for a Sun Belt title is still well within reach.
3. Name two Warhawks that Auburn fans should look out for and why.
Sophomore QB Garrett Smith – Smith is fairly similar to the 2012 qb that came to Jordan-Hare, Kolton Browning. He’s a guy that’s not fast, but defenses have to respect his ability to run, but is perhaps just as accurate passing.
Sophomore WR/KR Marcus Green – pure speed and big play making ability. He burst onto the scene last season due to a string of injuries, but has continued to show that he’s a big time player that can make key catches and is always a threat on special teams.
The extra player – OL Eastwood Thomas. The redshirt freshman transferred to ULM from Alabama and has had this game circled since he stepped foot on campus.
4. Name two Tigers that worry you and why.
RB Kerryon Johnson – although the defense is the strong point on this year’s ULM team, Georgia Southern was able to run at will vs. the Warhawks. Knowing that the Auburn coaching staff is familiar with the ULM game plan, I can see the ground game being big this week for Auburn.
If the game is close, the sure shot leg of kicker Daniel Carlson almost guaranteed 3 points… something that was the different in the last meeting.
5. Where do you see each team having a decided advantage?
It’s an SEC vs. SBC match-up so the Tigers hold an advantage. As always though, there’s the possibility that they could look past ULM and fall… then again with the Warhawks going right back into conference play, they too could look past Auburn and just roll over.
6. What’s the best case and worst case situation for the Warhawks?
Best case – redux of 2012…. worst case – redux of 2003, where Auburn won 73-7.
8. What’s your score prediction and analysis for this game?
I think this is a good game overall, with ULM possibly leading at the half. In the end, Tigers pull away and head to Toomer’s for a fire-free rolling.
9. Where will Auburn and ULM end up this season?
The hope is still for the Warhawks to rebound from last season’s 2-11 record with a 6-6 record this season. The schedule lines up for this to become a reality. As for Auburn, as a fan – Atlanta is always the goal, but with some tough games still coming up, only time will tell which direction this season goes.
10. Is it Louisiana-Monroe, UL-Monroe, or LA-Monroe? Either way, what’s it like having a .500 record against Nick Saban?
ULM – and technically the Warhawks are 2-1 versus him, after the Tide was forced to vacate an on-the-field win. It was good to see Saban finally get his first win over the Warhawks last year, it was a long time coming.

TET College Pick’em WEEK 4 RESULTS
Week four on the college football scene saw the first “adios” to a power-five coach, a blowout beating on some Dawgs by an Ole’ Rebel, a streak of eleven straight loses to a Gator coming to an end, and a final one second “thrill of victory to agony of defeat” for one Tiger and “agony of defeat to thrill of victory” for the other Tiger. Whew, and that was only a few games in one conference!
So with all that and more, it only makes sense that the standings for week four have been shaken up as well. BrianYork has moved his way up to the top and now sits on the perch, while Auburn1994 and awbee75 eye the coveted top spot.
It looks like this week coming up could be a good picking week to make some strong pushes to secure that anticipated Golden Bo Trophy. It waits in the wings for the champion. Who will it be?
